Add travel intervals to track your days outside the US and check FEIE eligibility

FEIE eligibility requires professional review. This tool is a reference estimate only.

More about this tool

How to use

  1. Add each date interval and mark whether those days were outside the United States.
  2. Use separate intervals when your location changed; review dates for gaps or overlaps.
  3. Check the outside-day count and whether any 12-month window reaches 330 days.
  4. Verify all FEIE eligibility requirements with current IRS guidance; this page only checks entered dates.

Worked example

Enter an interval from January 1 through December 31 and mark it as outside the US. The calendar counts both endpoints, then checks rolling 12-month windows for at least 330 entered outside days. Real travel often includes days in multiple locations, so enter each interval accurately and verify how travel days are treated under IRS rules.

What the calendar checks

The tool records inclusive start and end dates for each interval marked outside the United States. It counts unique outside dates and checks whether any 365-day window contains at least 330 such days.

Passing this date count alone does not establish FEIE eligibility. The bona fide residence test, qualifying foreign earned income, tax-home rules, travel details, and other requirements are outside this calendar’s calculation. Confirm your facts against IRS Publication 54 or a qualified tax adviser.

Frequently asked questions

How many outside days does the calendar check?

It checks whether a rolling 365-day window contains at least 330 dates marked outside the United States.

Are the start and end dates included?

Yes. The calendar counts each date from the entered start date through the end date, including both endpoints.

Does passing the day count qualify me for FEIE?

No. This page checks entered travel dates only. FEIE has additional requirements that must be reviewed under current IRS rules.

What if my trip has several segments?

Enter each interval separately and mark whether it was outside the US. Review for accurate dates and avoid accidentally counting the same dates twice.
